CometSearch Removal

CometSearch is browser hijacker that will modify your browser’s settings

CometSearch will change your browser’s settings, hence why it is categorised as a browser hijacker. It will change your homepage, new tabs and search engine, and then attempt to redirect you. In most cases, users are caught off guard by the setting modifications since users aren’t requested to authorize them. The unnecessary browser changes and the redirects to weird sites make hijackers highly aggravating infections. It’s also what reveals the hijacker’s presence. It is an instant giveaway that something is not right if you are randomly redirected. Nevertheless, some users, however, won’t associate the odd behaviour with a hijacker, thus not delete it.

Hijackers redirect to sponsored pages so they could make traffic and revenue. Be wary of those redirects, because they may redirected to suspicious websites, which might jeopardize your PC. Take extra caution to not fall for a scam or download malware by accident when you are redirected.

The hijacker is devious and it won’t ask for explicit permission to install. Hijackers can install without users’ permission because they use software bundling. Bundling programs is basically attaching hijackers, adware, etc, as added offers to freeware. The reason software bundling is so controversial is because whatever is added is set to install alongside. Users do not uncheck the items because often they do not know they are there. We’ll explain how to stop these unwanted installations in the next section.

Hijacker distribution methods

Hijackers aren’t spread through the same methods as malware and can’t install by themselves. It is pretty common for users to unknowingly install the hijackers themselves. They come as additional items attached to free software, and may install alongside. Unless freeware is installed using certain settings, the items won’t be obvious. Those free program download sites are full of software with items attached. It is essential to learn how unwanted installations are prevented for users who download free software regularly.

It is very important that you choose Advanced (Custom) settings during freeware installation. You won’t only be able to see what’s been attached but also deselect everything. The application setup will recommend using Default settings because they are supposedly “recommended” but those settings will install the offers automatically. If you see anything added, deselecting the item’s box will be enough.

Whatever you are installing, follow the installation process attentively. We also suggest avoiding downloading from sites that are known to host dubious applications. You will flood your system with junk programs rather quickly if you don’t review what gets installed. You’ll have a much easier time preventing unnecessary programs from installing in the beginning, than actually trying to remove them.

Could CometSearch cause damage

The hijacker’s installation is not noticeable but it becomes noticeable once it is installed. All browsers will have modified browser’s settings, whichever browser you are using (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox). The hijacker will change your homepage and new tab to its promoted sites, which means your browser will load the page every time you open it. Such significant changes are pretty obvious so they’ll be seen instantly. Furthermore, the hijackers will change your search engine. If you search through the browser address bar, the hijacker will show you modified search results. It may be difficult to reverse the modifications if you don’t delete the hijacker.

Certain search results will contain sponsored pages which could be unsafe to press on. Hijackers change search results so they may redirect users to specific pages to make profit. But web pages like that won’t necessarily be safe, and you might end up on scammy or malware-ridden websites. Usually, it’s not complicated to differentiate legitimate results from sponsored ones, as they have little to do with your searches.

Unnecessary browser modifications and the weird redirects are reason enough to uninstall hijackers. Though not a lot of users rush to uninstall it because it looks quite harmless. Some users don’t remove the hijackers at all. Hijackers, while not particularly dangerous by themselves, might expose users to potentially harmful content, which is why they should be uninstalled.

We should also let you know that hijackers snoop on how you browse the internet. Your IP address, data on your searches and visited pages, etc, will be gathered. That information would also be shared with unfamiliar third-parties.

CometSearch removal

Employing spyware removal software to delete CometSearch is suggested. The hijacker may recover if you carry out manual deletion but not notice a couple of files. Any files the hijacker leaves behind would be removed along with the hijacker if you used spyware removal software.

There shouldn’t be any problems with changing your browser’s settings once the hijacker is no longer present. And in the future, pay attention when you install software.Download Removal Toolto remove CometSearch
